"Psychic energy is a very fastidious thing which insists on fulfilment of its own conditions. However much energy may be present, we can not make it serviceable until we have succeeded in finding the right gradient "

Carl Jung

About Dr Annahita Nezami

(CPsychol, DPsych, MSc, BSc)

I am a chartered counselling psychologist with almost 20 years’ experience of working in mental health. I am the founder of Dr Annahita Nezami Therapies and have been running my private practice since January 2017. I am trained in Psychodynamic theory and principles, Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I believe that the relationship between the therapist and client is central to the process of change, and aim to create a therapeutic space that is safe, respectful, and contained. I always work collaboratively, whether with clients or professionals, and draw on psychological theories and disciplines grounded in scientific evidence. I am determined, compassionate, conscientious, creative and justifiable in my approach and take pride in all my professional work. I have applied research experience in areas of forensic psychology and counselling psychology. My interests surround wellbeing, attachment, trauma, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders.

I care deeply about the people i work with, and I believe psychologists play an important role in not only helping to improve the wellbeing of individuals but also entire communities and societies and have devoted my professional career to this aim.

I gave a TEDx talk in 2017 and have talked about my ideas on improving mental health in newspapers, on radio programmes and at conferences in the United Kingdom and Europe.

I offer a free 30 minute telephone consultation, please do get in touch if you have any queries or book an appointment on my contact page.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

The journey of life is not always smooth and can be filled with unexpected surprises and twists. We have to tolerate the fact that we will die one day, that we will inevitably lose the people we love, we need to have purpose in order to feel fulfilled, we need to be vulnerable yet strong, we need to be authentic yet stay boundaried, we need to be compassionate yet assertive. Life is filled with uncertainty, and is sometimes inconsistent and contradictory. Sometimes the challenges of life are exacerbated because of destructive patterns of thinking, attachment styles or behaviours that we form in early life or because of abuse, trauma and injustice that we encounter.’Happiness’ can sometimes evade us, particularly when stormy weather’s have pursued our island relentlessly. From this place, rebuilding can seem daunting and our problems insurmountable, but it is from this place that we could all do with a little compassion, wisdom, and support.

"I have had a history of depression and anxiety. I tried many ways of dealing with it (some more successful than others). This was the first time I had tried Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and I was not sure what to expect. Dr Annahita has a calm relaxing manner which made for productive sessions. However, she was not afraid to push me and dig deeper to get the bottom of an issue without being intrusive or triggering negative thoughts. I always felt comfortable engaging in a dialogue and challenging her whenever we disagreed (which didn’t happen often!). Through the process of the sessions I became more able to identify and manage my feelings, something that I have always had problems with. I also realised how much of my behaviours and thought patterns are related to experiences in my childhood. Understanding how and why I have certain negative thought patterns has helped me to manage them much better. Dr Annahita also helped me to identify anxiety as a cause of many of my symptoms which helped to develop the right coping mechanisms. I feel I am now equipped with a much greater set of tools for the next time that depression looms on the horizon. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Annahita to anyone suffering from the debilitating effects of depression and/or anxiety"

"Dr Annahita treated me with upmost respect and 100% kindness. Her calm and funny nature, along with her ability to push me (kindly) into a space where I could talk and probe my difficulties allowed me to gain much insight into ‘me’ and start my ongoing self-development. I am so grateful to her"

“I feel like I understand myself and my emotions so much more than I could have imagined. The sessions with Dr Annahita, although challenging at times, always felt constructive and I felt like I was making progress every week. She was always supportive and non-judgmental, particularly when I felt like I had a bad week or set-back. Can’t Thank Dr Annahita enough!”

“I have been fortunate enough to work with Dr Annahita over the past year. I greatly enjoyed my sessions and we worked hard on many different topics. I learnt a huge amount about myself and the relationships I have with others. Significantly, we also spent a fair amount of time looking at values and goals and it has had such a positive impact on me. I am very grateful to Annahita and can honestly say that my sessions with her have really changed my approach to many aspects of my life, and I feel far better equipped for the future”

“I had some sessions with Dr Annahita Nezami and found them extremely helpful. I was reluctant about going and she made me feel extremely comfortable, asked insightful questions and really helped my family and I. I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone, she’s a delight”

“Dr Annahita was very perceptive of our issues. She pinpointed the problem(s) quickly and accurately and worked with us to help us understand and move through the different issues. We highly recommend her as a Psychologist”

“I saw Dr Annahita in her consultation room in Kingston upon Thames. The space is warm and welcoming and she is caring and knowledgeable. She seemed to really care about me and my problems and was my cheerleader along the way. She provided me with deep insight into my depression, why it’s there, what it is showing me. We worked on understanding my pain, and I learnt the importance of not discounting it! Thank you Dr Annahita!”
